Both the boys celebrated a few "firsts" today. Austin had his first day of 6th grade in a brand new school and in a brand new town. I attended all 13 years at the same school so I know I would have been petrified but he was very calm, and totally cool. Houston celebrated his first day of Kindergarten. He was very big and brave (and so was his momma).
Here's a recap of our day..
We started our day off bright and early. Over the past two weeks, I've heard stories of the school day morning traffic so I knew we'd better get an early start. All the schools are located in a cluster on a two-lane road and with 20+ classes per grade things get pretty crazy pretty fast.
The boys woke up with a visit from the back-to-school fairy. Yes, I realize that this is very childish for Austin, but Houston loved it and asked me if she came every day he goes to school. He said he'd like to go Saturday too, if that's the case. :)
I found these certificates online, and just couldn't pass them up! Such a cute idea, especially if your little one is apprehensive and scared. Houston's been to many different schools before, but I just never know what to expect from him.
At the boys request, they ate bacon, hard-boiled eggs and orange juice for breakfast and then got ready for their big day.
Houston's classroom is part of the frog fairway. They're the blue frog pod. He was super duper excited and couldn't wait to leave this morning. I think he wore his backpack for about 30 minutes before we actually left.
Austin is getting too big...we already have to have the name-brand clothing...I can't believe he'll be in Jr. High next year. His school's only dress code is that shirts have to be tucked in. He's not too happy about that, especially with athletic shorts, which he says, and I quote, "will look pretty gay!"
They both picked out their 1st day outfits...of course they had to show their Aggie pride. Gig Em'
Houston with his size 3 GINORMOUS feet...Such a big boy.
We dropped Austin off first. I had planned to take him in, but we quickly realized, that was far from cool so I just walked him to the door. We didn't want to embarrass him on his first day! Ha! I'll save that for later.
Houston and his teacher, Mrs. Smith. She is so cute and sweet and he already loves her. He's gonna have so much fun!!!
He's trying to be big. At this point, he really didn't want me to leave. I thought he was about to start crying put he put on a brave face as I left...he actually looks like he's giving me the evil eye.
The Momma, scrap-booker, and memory-box freak in me, adores this. I so love that Mrs. Smith took the time to document their first day for us. I will treasure this forever!
They ended their busy day with a taco supper and banana-nut muffins for dessert and a trip to the pool! And now we're gearing up for day two.
XOXO,
Stacy
